In a mid-term election year you don’t get near the media inundation of political spewing that accompanies a presidential election, but that doesn’t mean there is a spewing void.
It’s just a slightly smaller scale.

| Out of what touch? |
It’s discouraging, maybe even damaging, to realize you are not one of the planet’s population. That you are, in fact, some kind of throwback.
The thing is, I don’t have the desire to catch up. Current stuff is not as appealing to me as non-current stuff — stuff I know about and can make work.

My heart aches so much for Dustin Hurst. He was convicted of a felony charge for electronic solicitation of a child in June and sent to prison for 155 months.

Atchison commissioners are taking aim at larger birds in amending the ordinance banning certain animals in the city. Smelly livestock and dangerous and vicious animals are already forbidden within city limits and pet chickens have recently come into commission sights.

| Flood memories pour in |
As a 3-year-old child, I lacked the ability to realize the full impact of the July 1958 flood in Atchison. Despite some small talk I’ve overheard in the 50 years since the occurrence, I admit the accounts I read to prepare for my July history story published in this past Saturday’s edition were personal eye openers.
